Starlight headliners, fitted in Croydon
The night-sky roof you have seen in high-end cars, integrated into your own headlining so it looks factory.
A starlight headliner is hundreds of fibre-optic strands fed through your existing headlining, each ending in a pinpoint of light. The whole thing runs from a single illuminator hidden behind the trim, which is why there is no heat, no bulbs to replace, and nothing visible until it is switched on.
The part that takes the time is the layout. Star density, spread and placement all get set out for your specific roof before a single hole is made, because that is what decides whether it reads as a night sky or as a colander.
How it works
-
01
Out
The headlining comes out of the car and goes on the bench. It is not done in situ.
-
02
Lay out
Density and pattern mapped to your roof, then the fibre fed strand by strand.
-
03
Trim
Every fibre cut flush to the cloth, so there is no bump and no glow bleed.
-
04
Refit
Illuminator hidden, loom fused and routed, headlining back in with its own clips.
- Headlining out, fibre laid
- Stars set and density checked
- Finished night-sky effect
Common questions
Does it damage the headlining?
The fibre passes through the cloth from behind and is trimmed flush, so from inside the car you see a pinpoint and nothing else. It is worked on the bench, out of the car, which is what keeps the finish clean.
Can I choose how many stars?
Yes. Density and placement are set out before anything is made, from subtle and sparse to a full sky. It is worth deciding with the headlining in front of you rather than from a photo.
Will it drain my battery?
The illuminator draws very little and is wired to a switched feed, so it is not live when the car is off.
Does it work with a sunroof or panoramic roof?
Usually, around the aperture. How much roof is left decides how the layout works, so it is worth sending a photo of your interior first.
