Car wrapping in Croydon
Change the colour of your car without touching the paint underneath, and change it back whenever you want.
A wrap is a skin. Done properly it follows every line of the car, tucks out of sight at every edge, and reads as paint from two feet away. Done badly it lifts at the arches inside a month. The difference is almost entirely in the preparation, and in how much of the car comes apart before anything is laid.
We work in premium cast vinyl, which is the grade that can be relieved into a curve rather than stretched over it. Stretched film wants to return to flat, and that is what pulls an edge up six months later.
How it works
-
01
Strip
Handles, badges, lights and trim come off wherever leaving them on would show a cut line.
-
02
Prep
Wash, clay and degrease. Vinyl bonds to what is under it, and nothing sticks to a dirty panel.
-
03
Lay
One panel at a time, relieved into the body lines, with the film worked rather than pulled.
-
04
Finish
Every edge tucked behind a panel, post-heated so it stays put, then the car goes back together.
- Panels off, ready to lay
- Edge tucked and post-heated
- Finished colour change
Common questions
Will a wrap damage my paint?
Not if the paint is sound. Quality cast vinyl is designed to come off cleanly, and it protects what is underneath while it is on. Where paint has already been resprayed, poorly prepared or is lifting, it can come away with the film. We check for that before starting and tell you straight if we are concerned.
How long does a car wrap last?
Quality cast vinyl typically lasts several years. How many depends far more on how the car is kept than on the film: garaged and hand-washed lasts a long time, parked under a tree and jet-washed at the edges does not.
Do I need to tell the DVLA and my insurer?
Yes to both if you change the colour. A colour change is a notifiable change to your V5C, and any modification should be declared to your insurer.
Can you wrap over damage?
A wrap sits over the panel rather than repairing it. Dents, deep chips and orange peel will still read through the finish, so anything you want gone needs sorting before the film goes on.
